Yuan USD Converter: Chinese yuan to US dollars
Yuan USD Converter converts Chinese yuan (CNY, also called RMB or renminbi) to US dollars and back. Type an amount in either box and the other box updates instantly as you type. There is no convert button and no page reload. The tool loads the current ECB reference rate on page load, so the math reflects the latest official rate rather than a hardcoded number.
Everything runs in your browser with plain JavaScript. No account, no tracking scripts, and the amounts you type never leave your device. The only network request is a single call to fetch the current exchange rate.

Frequently asked questions
Is Yuan USD Converter free to use?
Yes. The converter is completely free, requires no signup, and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to download and no account to create.
Where does the exchange rate come from?
The live rate comes from the Frankfurter API, which publishes euro foreign exchange reference rates sourced from the European Central Bank. It shows how many yuan (CNY) one US dollar buys. If the live rate cannot be loaded, the tool switches to a clearly labeled approximate reference rate of 6.7 CNY per USD.
How often do exchange rates update?
The European Central Bank reference rates are published once per business day, around 16:00 Central European Time, and are not updated on weekends or certain holidays. Real market rates move continuously during trading hours, so the reference rate may differ slightly from the rate you see at any given moment.
Why is my bank or card rate different from this rate?
Banks, card networks, and money transfer services add a markup or spread on top of the mid market reference rate, and many also charge flat fees. The rate you see here is a reference rate, not a quote. Always check the final rate and fees your provider shows before confirming a transaction.
What is the difference between yuan, RMB, and CNY?
Renminbi (RMB) is the official name of the currency of China, yuan is the basic unit of that currency, and CNY is the ISO 4217 currency code used in banking and foreign exchange. In everyday use, people say yuan. See our full explainer on the Yuan vs RMB vs CNY page.
What is CNH?
CNH is the offshore yuan, the version of the Chinese currency that trades freely in Hong Kong and other offshore hubs. CNY is the onshore rate, which is managed within a daily band by the People's Bank of China. The two rates are usually close but can diverge when markets move quickly. This converter uses the CNY reference rate.
Does this site store my data?
No. All conversion math runs in your browser with plain JavaScript. The amounts you type are never sent to our servers. The only network request is a single call to the Frankfurter API to fetch the current exchange rate.
Can I rely on these results for actual transactions?
The results are for educational and informational purposes only and do not constitute financial advice. Exchange rates move constantly, and the rate you get from a bank or transfer service will include fees and a markup. Confirm the actual rate with your provider before sending or exchanging money.
